The reasons for our odometer service

Over the last few years many manufacturers have been replacing the old analogue dashboards, for new up-to-date digital ones. Primarily, this has not been done to stop mileage read outs from being altered, but to reduce the overall costs of making dashboards and increase reliability.

Basically, the new digital types are cheaper and faster to produce, but unfortunately, as with all new developments, occasionally problems can arise.
The dashboard relies on information stored within a memory device called an Eeprom (Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory). Unfortunately this device is susceptible to involuntary electrical disturbances caused by the cars electrical system, which in turn can cause corruption of the information stored within. Many problems can arise from this - for example, jump starting the car due to a flat battery may cause the digital mileage reading to change (to either a higher or lower value), overwriting the true mileage of the car. This is where our Services come in, our software will allow us to change the reading to the cars correct mileage reading. There are many other valid reasons for changing the odometer readings, but Automotive Electronics will not be held responsible for any illegal misuse of our services.

Is it Illegal?

No! Adjusting a motor vehicles odometer reading is not currently a criminal offence in the UK providing the car belongs to you and you are legitimately changing the odomter reading to the correct one , however selling a vehicle with the intention to defraud is a quite a serious one, one that also contravenes the trade description act. We may supply you with a disclaimer form &  ask you to sign confirming that we have advised you of your legal responsibilities concerning any changes that you are asking us to make to the odometer.

We can only repair and convert replacement dash clusters / odometers , for obvious legal reasons we will not assist in defrauding third parties, please note this before asking.

ONCE AGAIN

It is not illegal to change the mileage on your own personal vehicle for the above reasons. It is illegal if you knowingly sell the vehicle with a mileage either above or below what is has actually covered & especially to profiteer, we can not assist in any such activity please bear this in mind.

Please note: If the odometer reading is incorrect and this information is known to you, you must display a mileage disclaimer sticker adjacent to the mileage reading which is equally as big and visible as the odometer itself when the vehicle is being sold.

On imported cars that have already had the speedometer / odometer converted to read miles, we are able to adjust the odometer to read the equivalent mileage to the reading that is currently shown in kilometers. IE Currently showing 50000 kilometers can be adjusted to show the new mileage reading of  31055 miles.
